Maria de Magdala:

the rescue of the feminine and the transcending function

Abstract

This work relates the passage of Maria de Magdala in the new testament, upon the awakening of the Self, after experiencing painful egoic stages and the rescue of the feminine in the vision of Analytical Psychology. So that, the following concepts were delineated: the Feminine and misogyny; anima and animus, aspects of the shadow and, at last, the transcendent function. With that, it was possible to describe the moments of the personal history of the character, a few historical aspects, the way people of Magdala lived, the culture, the laws, the customs and the interpretation of the symbols that the passage brings. We have identified some archetypes of female behavior and social projection that still exist nowdays, as well as the aspects of anima and animus and the projection of the opposites, represented by violence and discrimination of women. Identified as the encounter of Mary's personality with Jesus (Self representation), as has redrawn its entire trajectory, and it is concluded that the direction of the character's attitudes from the encounter with Jesus and the rescue of the feminine has transformed her forever, as a great example of the refining of the self that aspires to the awakening of the Great Personality within each of us.
